Leviticus 26:12 (KJV)

And I will walk among you, and will be your God, and you shall be my people.

Throughout this year, God has tested my trust in him. However, I still get overwhelmed by the little details.

That's when God swoops in, saves the day, and redirects my focus back to him. He reminds me that he is present and in control.

Honestly, the overwhelmed feelings stem from my need to control the details of my life. I don't like to think of it this way, but I essentially stiff-arm God out of the driver's seat, taking the reigns, only to burn and crash shortly after.

How often do we assume that our way of doing things is the only way?

We get into trouble when we start leaning to our own understanding, forgetting to acknowledge the Most High God.

God patiently sits in the background, waiting for us to come to our senses.

God is even gracious enough to give us traffic light warnings when we're going in the wrong direction.

Greenlight is when you're abiding in the peace of God, knowing he's in control and that there is no need to worry.

Yellowlight is when you start to feel anxious, and your mind is on your problem rather than on God.

Redlight is when you stiff-arm God out of the driver's seat, trying to take matters into your own hands, causing a major collision.

At what moment, tracing your steps back before the crash, did you forget that God was walking with you?

Was it when your plans started going awry, or your expectations failed?

When did you forget that God was in control?

We walk by faith and not by sight. That's why when our circumstances turn us upside down, we must remember that God knew these things would happen before we did.

We see a puff of smoke in our lives, we panic and yell fire. It is a good thing God's power can extinguish anything that would be to our detriment.

As believers, we know that God walks with us. We know this because we can testify of his grace and mercy following us.

One example I recall was in my junior year of college; I needed an internship to graduate, but I had no connections.

I didn't know where, and I didn't know how, but I trusted God to work it out, and he did.

I was a part of a podcast on my college campus that interviewed the staff and students. One interview we did was with the financial director.

I had forgotten about the interview, but months later, the financial director called me. He remembered me from the podcast and he took the liberty of recommending me for a scholarship.

I was over the hills excited. Look at God being God.

Additionally, the scholarship was sponsored by a person he personally knew. The financial director offered to connect me with the sponsor, so that I could do an internship with the sponsor's company.

Now, that's what I call grace and mercy.

God is walking with us, leading our lives in a way that works everything out for our good, so trust him.

Our circumstances may not look too good, but we can always trust God has a sovereign plan. His sovereignty can not be overridden nor vetoed, it's a guarantee.

Pray this prayer

Father,

I acknowledge that you are sovereign and in control of every detail concerning me. I cast my cares on you because I know you care for me. I ask that you lead me in a way that strengthens my faith. Allow me to see your goodness and mercy. I thank you that you are walking with me and your sovereign plan for my life is a guarantee. In Jesus's name, amen.
