2 Corinthians 1:3-4 (KJV)
Blessed be God, even father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; who comforts us in all our tribulation.
When it rains, it pours. Our trials begin with a trickle of frustration and worsen when the dark clouds roll in.
It's like a domino effect. You feel like you're falling, and nothing breaks the fall.
Let me tell you that I've been there more times than I'd like.
For me, it starts with a negative thought, and no matter how much I try not to think that thought, it invites a flock of negativity.
We will inevitably encounter quite a few rainstorms in life. The best we can do is pack a raincoat and umbrella.
Your prayer life is your umbrella, and the bible is your raincoat. I know it's easier said than done, but what better options do you have?
Sometimes, in a storm, we try to swim our way out of it. We try to anchor ourselves in people or find insufficient means to remove the pain, but that's only a temporary fix.
How do we find comfort in God when our situation feels claustrophobic?
The only answer is to hold on to faith. Our emotions cloud our judgment, making us think God has forsaken us, but we know that's not true.
That's why you must pack your umbrella of prayer and the bible as your raincoat; it protects you during a storm.
You can't handle this storm on your own, but God can. You can't see your way out of this temporary situation, but God can.
Remember, after the storm is the rainbow. It is a beautiful reminder that your trials are only temporary. The storms of life may knock you off your feet, but the good thing is what you gain from it.
Scripture says in chapter one of James, "My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into many temptations. Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience."
Anytime I've had a trial, it was an opportunity to grow closer to God. In my storms, I can hear more from God. I can hear his voice clearly when I quiet the noise of my thoughts.
What storm are you going through right now, and how can you use this storm as an opportunity to grow closer to God?
Know that God is with you through thick and thin. If you only could get quiet enough to hear the whisper of his voice.
Pray this prayer
Father,
In my storms, I feel the farthest from you. I want you to be my anchor. Help silence the noise of my thoughts so I can hear from you. Strengthen my faith to be able to weather this storm. I declare that I will see your promises. I will stand still and know that you are with me. In Jesus's name, amen.
