2 Corinthians 3:5 (BBE)

Not as if we were able by ourselves to do anything for which we might take the credit; but our power comes from God.

Do you ever feel like you're doing too much and too little all at once? Your agenda is full because you have many responsibilities, and you still don't feel you're doing enough.

You're the person who doesn't like things done halfway because you strive for excellence.

Am I right?

Sometimes, it feels like the weight of the world is on your shoulders, and nothing you do relieves it.

What is it that makes you feel you have to do it all? Is it fear of failing, letting others down, or are you trying to uphold people's opinions about you?

God never intended for you to operate in this way. Scripture says in 2 Corinthians 9:12, "My grace is sufficient for you: for my strength is made perfect in weakness."

God doesn't give us the weight of the world to carry because he knows we can't bear it. So why are you trying?

God promised never to put more on you than you can bear, but you keep adding extra. You hold onto expectations and people's opinions; it has become too heavy to carry.

If God is the one who orders our steps, wouldn't it be his responsibility to give us the capacity to do all that he wants us to do and the time to do it?

The answer is yes. Since God is always on the job, the question is, what are we doing wrong?

We go through our days filled with worry and anxiety. We go to bed, toss and turn all night, and then wake up the next day exhausted.

If this sounds like you, then you're struggling with the issue of self-dependency.

The thoughts and feelings you have that you have to be the one to do it, or you have to be the one to figure it out, are all signs that you're leaning toward your own understanding.

Proverbs 3:5 tells us to lean not to our own understanding. Your self-dependency is taking the place of your faith and trust in God.

In this case, it would be time to reevaluate our lives. What are we carrying that God no longer wants us to, and what are we carrying that will require more of our faith?

Let go of the things God doesn't want you to carry, and trust the promises of God with the rest of your load. God promised that his yoke would be easy and his burdens light.

God promised never to leave you nor forsake you. God promised to be your strength and provider.

So whatever you need, look to the Father, and know that in him you are enough.

Pray this prayer

Father,

I've been carrying a weight you never intended for me to. Help me lighten the load by giving up the things that aren't a part of my purpose. Forgive me for my self-dependency. Help me trust in you with all my heart and lean not to my own understanding. I declare that in God, I am more than enough. In Jesus's name, amen.
